Yesterday we came
down to Virginia
to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with our son and his family. On the way, my husband was listening to one of
his favorite radio talk shows. The host
asked people to call in and give a list of four people they would like to
invite to Thanksgiving dinner…..people living or dead. He gave everyone plenty of time to think
about it before he started taking calls.
It didn’t take me
long to start my list. Mother Theresa
would be number one. The other names I
would have to look up. I read a lot
about the Holocaust and other true stories and so I would pick the woman who
saved so many children…there is a website about her….something about a
jar. She kept each child's name and information in it....or something like that. Another young
girl from Poland
that survived and then started an orphanage for Jewish children. And the man (I think he was from Switzerland ) that provided false passports so that Jews could escape. There are dozens
of others in all walks of life that I can think of that have done wonderful and brave things. Those are the kinds of people I admire. I am not impressed by fame or fortune. Then the calls
started coming in and as each one gave their list of people I started to
realize you can tell a lot about a person by the people on their list. One of the first guys wanted to invite a
sexy woman he saw in the supermarket! (That tells a bit about him.) Some wanted movie stars or talk show hosts. Others listed past presidents or important
people in history. One wanted to invite Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich. I don’t know who
the other two were on that list but hopefully they were someone very big and
strong to manage the fight. Can you just
imagine that dinner????? I would love to be there. lol Sports fans wanted
their favorite players. But no one
mentioned our present President!
Who would you
invite to dinner? Think about it and
then ask yourself what it tells you about the person that you are. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! |
